Lipids are organic compounds that have one common physical property being not soluble in water (polar solvent) but soluble in none polar solvents.
Lipids are used in storing energy, and structure of many cells in humans and animals. They are used in protecting and insulating cells (internal environment). They are used as chemical messengers between cells (cellular membranes). Hormones are considered lipids play major role in humane body.
