There are two models of enzyme’s actions”
1. Lock – Key Model: |
The substrate fits exactly into the rigid active site of the enzyme. Such fitting is similar to a lock and its key.The shape of the enzyme is rigid and not flexible. |

2. Induced – Fit Model: |
As the substrate comes closer to the enzyme, the enzyme starts changing its shape to fit the shape of the substrate. The shape of the active centers at the enzyme is flexible and adjustable to the shape of the incoming substrate. The shape of the enzyme is not rigid. It is flexible. |
